There are trillions of different strains of beneficial bacteria in our gut. This article from the BBC news website referring to Dr Michael Mosley's TV programme "Trust Me I'm a Doctor" discusses how you can boost your microbiome by either eating/drinking foods/drinks containing beneficial bacteria or by eating foods containing prebiotics, i.e. foods containing fibres that we aren't able to digest ourselves, but which our gut bacteria thrive on.
